The New York Jets have ruled out Sam Darnold for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Darnold took a lot of reps during practice but was still in a non-contact jersey because there was still concern about the spleen. Darnold has been dealing with mono which enlarged the spleen and to be able to play he needed the spleen to go back to its regular season.

On Thursday, Donald said that he wanted to play on Sunday but he also didn't want to risk dying on the field.

“It's a tough thing because you want to stay safe,” Darnold said Thursday via ESPN. “I want to make sure that I'm safe out there and I'm not going to die.”

Darnold said he has good energy and it has felt good to get back with his teammates this week, but he knows how important it is to be cleared.

“I feel like I'm good enough to play,” Darnold said. “My energy is great. I'm having fun out there. I'm having a good time in the huddle, breaking the huddle, just playing football. It's good to be back from that standpoint. I feel like I'm good to go, but obviously there are some things that need to get cleared before that happens.”

Obviously the test results didn't come back the way they wanted them to so now Darnold will be out at least one more week. In his absence, it will be Luke Falk making his second career NFL start.
