The New York Jets are expected to have their regular starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8 after he had his toenail removed, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

During the Jets' 33-0 loss to the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, Darnold suffered an injury that caused him to need a toenail to be removed. During his performance, he recorded four interceptions and a fumble. His 3.6 passer rating was one of the worst single-game passer ratings in franchise history.

The struggles that Darnold had during the game prompted to say that he was ‘seeing ghosts.'

“I just gotta see the field a lot better,” Darnold said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “That's kinda what that means. It was a rough day out there, rough night out there, and obviously I gotta be better and learn from the mistakes. But we will get better.”

It has been a tough season for Darnold from a health standpoint. He missed three games earlier in the season as a result of mononucleosis and that diagnosis was initially thought of as being a prank. It is not often that you see a player being listed on an injury report for mononucleosis let alone a toenail removal.

So far this season, Darnold has totaled 599 passing yards and has five interceptions compared to three touchdowns. He has completed on just 59 percent of his pass attempts and has produced a mere 64.7 passer rating. The Jets will need him to get healthy and improve to end the season.
