Following much scrutiny on the situation, rookie quarterback Sam Darnold was able to work out his rookie deal with the New York Jets on Monday that has put him into training camp after missing the first three days.
This has put him a little bit behind the rest of the team in terms what has been covered and practiced with the rest of the team over the weekend. According to Darryl Slater of NJ.com, head coach Todd Bowles has voiced that Darnold has some catching up to do over the next few days.
Although it is a minor step back for Darnold, he has plenty of time to get caught up with the rest of the team as there is still just over a week until the Jets take the field for the first preseason game next month. Darnold is expected to get some playing time to see how he fares against NFL competition as he continues his development at the next level.
New York has been quite high on the former USC quarterback since taking him with the third overall pick in this year draft. The team has already stated that he will have every chance to vie for the starting job this upcoming season against the likes of Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater.
These next few weeks in training camp and the preseason will be a huge determining factor in regards to whether he can earn the starting job right out of the gate to his rookie campaign.
