The New York Jets have expressed interest in Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, who has requested a trade from the team by next week’s trade deadline, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

However, Mehta adds that the Cardinals will not agree to trade Peterson to New York “barring a miracle.”

This isn't the first time the Jets have been linked with a possible trade for a high-profile star. They were involved in the Khalil Mack sweepstakes and have also been linked as a possible landing spot for Le'Veon Bell.

Given the rebuilding process going on with the Cardinals, Peterson likely doesn’t want to end up in a similar situation with the Jets and would likely want to be traded to a Super Bowl contender instead. But it still remains to be seen whether the Cardinals will budge from their current stance that Peterson is not going anywhere.

Still, the Jets are well within their rights to at least reach out to the Cardinals about a potential deal for the outstanding seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro corner and see what happens.

Peterson’s possible addition would give the Jets quite the secondary. He would join Trumaine Johnson, the Jets' big-money signing in free agency, as well as a fellow LSU alum in young star safety Jamal Adams roaming in center field.

But with a deal for Peterson looking unlikely, the Jets will likely have to wait until free agency to land the big-name star they’ve been waiting for.
