The first round of the 2021 NFL Draft takes place on April 29, and the New York Jets are likely to draft a new rookie quarterback. It seems that might be a forgone conclusion after the front office traded Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers, with general manager Joe Douglas essentially confirming as much on Tuesday.

The rest of the league apparently believes the Jets will keep the second overall selection, as New York has received few phone calls and little interest in the pick, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapaport notes how the Miami Dolphins received quite the haul for the No. 3 pick in the draft. However, the Dolphins do already have a young quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, so they weren't as desperate to stay at No. 3 to take one of the top options after Trevor Lawrence. The Jets clearly need a quarterback, so it would take a ridiculous amount of draft capital to make them think about dealing out of No. 2.

There have already been a number of rumors suggesting New York is prepared to take BYU's Zach Wilson with the second pick. Steve Young only added fuel to that fire with some recent comments suggesting the Jets will indeed take Wilson. The Hall of Fame quarterback and ESPN NFL analyst said during a podcast last week that “the Jets have committed to Zach [Wilson],” per Al Iannazzone of Newsday.

Douglas' response to Young's comments seem to give the game away:

“Steve’s plugged into BYU pretty well,” Douglas said.

Everything is aligning for the Jets to draft a quarterback, with Zach Wilson the likely choice at No. 2 overall behind Trevor Lawrence.
