With the New York Jets set to play their season finale on Sunday against the New England Patriots, many anticipate them to make sweeping changes this off-season following a highly-disappointing campaign. The writing is pretty much on the wall for head coach Adam Gase's future with the team.

With Gase's exit on the horizon, New York is reportedly expected to pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal in the off-season, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. That, however, will depend on the direction that the Jets will go to. That could hinge on whether they still see incumbent quarterback Sam Darnold.

Perhaps, as Schefter suggested, they could also deal their No. 2 overall pick should they stick with the 23-year old.

Darnold will finish his third campaign with the worst statistical year of his career. His drop off this season has sparked trade rumors throughout the year. With him sticking through to the end of the season, the Jets will now have to make a tough decision on whether they still consider him as their QB of the future.

Darnold has failed to live up to his billing as the no. 3 overall pick in his class. His 13-24 record as a starter for the Jets suggests that a split might be the best for both sides.

Darnold certainly believes he's still the man New York can bank on as their primary facilitator for many years to come. He believes he is far from a finished product and can still improve.

However, he hasn't given enough the Jets enough reason to invest in him for the long haul.
