Unlike most teams, the New York Jets have an abundance of talent under center going into organized team activities. As of right now, quarterback Josh McCown is the safest bet to be the starter and No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold is also likely in the running.

However, it appears nothing is set in stone this offseason. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News suggests head coach Todd Bowles could potentially name quarterback Teddy Bridgewater as the starter for the 2018 NFL season opener if he earns it:

Make no mistake: My understanding is that Todd Bowles won't hesitate to start Bridgewater over McCown in the season opener if the former Vikings starter looks great in the preseason and Darnold clearly isn't ready.

New York managed to free up some space in their crowded quarterback group after cutting Bryce Petty and trading Christian Hackenberg to the Oakland Raiders. That said, it appears that New York has a much clearer picture of how the depth chart will shake out.

The veteran McCown proved himself as a viable option under center after a solid 2017 campaign. However, it is clear that the Jets are intrigued by Bridgewater's potential. Prior to his devastating knee injury, he was one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the NFL. Furthermore, he has received nothing but praise from his new teammates thus far. That said, McCown's status as the starter could be in jeopardy.

Part of New York's heavy quarterback investment this offseason was their decision to trade up and select Sam Darnold with the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. As talented as he is, it appears the Jets will look to take their time with his development before handing over the reigns. Only time will tell whether it is McCown or Bridgewater he takes them from.
