The Boston Celtics will try their hand at trading for San Antonio Spurs estranged star Kawhi Leonard once again. The Celtics had called the Spurs with a trade offer prior to the deadline, getting no counter-proposal from the organization, as they attempted to iron out their issues internally, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Leonard reportedly wants out of San Antonio and is actively seeking to be traded from the organization.

The Celtics already boast plenty of exciting prospects and assets to offer for a player of Leonard's caliber, including defensive stalwart Marcus Smart, a young Terry Rozier, along with lottery wonders in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Boston has the likes of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward on max contracts at the moment and would likely have to unload either of them to allow them to keep Leonard long-term.

This time around, the Spurs are more likely to listen to offers now that their relationship with Leonard has proved irreparable and a trade will prove the only option that could allow them to salvage something for his services.

The Celtics could choose to move on from Irving in the near future, given that he's shown no interest in signing an extension this season and would cost an additional $80 million in 2019 to retain him when he becomes a free agent.
