The Ringer's Bill Simmons says he would “bet the house” on star small forward Kevin Durant signing with the New York Knicks this summer in free agency.

Durant becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1 once he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Golden State Warriors.

Many believe Durant will leave the Warriors if they win their third-straight title and sign with the Knicks, who have cap space to sign two max contract players in the offseason.

Kevin Durant's business partner, Rich Kleiman, is a New York native and lifelong Knicks fan. Rival teams around the league believe the Knicks will use that to their advantage this summer.

New York has been a walking disaster for years and they have the worst owner in sports in James Dolan. The Warriors, meanwhile, are the best team in the NBA.

So, why would Durant leave the Dubs to sign with the Knicks? The allure of playing in New York City and embarking on a new challenge could be two reasons why KD would sign with New York.

Until free agency starts, though, all of this is just speculation.

The Knicks have also been linked to Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving. Durant and Irving could come to New York together.
