Most NBA players keep a strict diet regime, but it's not uncommon to see them gain a bit of weight in the offseason. Down time increases and temptations creep in. For New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr., that temptation often comes in the form of Bojangles' Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits.

However, after abstaining from the popular fried chicken chain for most of this summer, the former No. 9 overall pick has lost 15 pounds:

Smith was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Knicks back in January as part of the Kristaps Porzingis deal. In his 21 appearances with New York, Smith racked up averages of 14.7 points on 41.3 percent shooting from the field (28.9 percent from beyond the arc), 5.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28.6 minutes per outing.

In a recent interview with SNY TV, Knicks head coach David Fizdale noted that he is happy with Smith's improved jumper:

“It's a lot better,” Fizdale said. “It's a lot less movement, it's more efficient. He put in a lot of time on the fundamentals this summer. But it's a process. He'll have days where it's not as great. But I think consistently now he's got a shot that has a better chance of going in.”

Though he has lost weight and improved his jumper, Smith is in competition with Elfrid Payton and Frank Ntilikina for New York's starting point guard position.

For now, we'll have to wait and see if Smith's weight loss pays off.
