New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry replied to critics who scorched him and the front office for signing too many power forwards this offseason.

“A lot has been made of us ‘oh you guys signed four power forwards!’… well we’re in an era of position-less basketball,” said Perry, according to Tommy Beer of NBC Sports.

The Knicks were thought for a bulk of this past season to be the frontrunners to get Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, only for that to flip on its head in the final days ahead of free agency, with across the bridge rivals Brooklyn Nets getting them both.

New York had already carved out enough cap space to sign two max-level players, but instead they chose to use it on short-term deals to the likes of Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, and enticing Marcus Morris to sign after previously agreeing to a deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

While Portis can play at the center position and Morris has played small forward before, Perry's argument falls flat in its head, considering that second-year big man Mitchell Robinson has minutes locked up at center and Kevin Knox is due for big minutes at small forward.

This will once again bring birth to a timeshare between players, as well as many unhappy players looking for minutes and an opportunity to start — giving head coach David Fizdale all the more headaches upon trying to navigate a 2019-20 season that is already starting off the wrong foot.

The Knicks have the talent to do better than they did last season, but that isn't saying much, considering they mustered the worst record in the league with a mere 17 wins.
