Jalen Brunson doesn't think there will be a “target” on his back after signing a $104 million deal with the New York Knicks. However, he knows there will be expectations on him with the kind of money he got.

While discussing Brunson's deal on The Old Man & The Three podcast, JJ Redick asked if the new Knicks guard feels he'll be singled out and be put under the microscope considering how huge his contract is. The former Dallas Mavericks star, nonetheless, responded by saying “target” is not the right word to use.

“A target? No. I don’t think a target. But there’s going to be an expectation, for sure,” Brunson said, via The News & Observer. “I don’t think the target is the right term. But the expectations are definitely going to be there. Knicks fans are die-hard fans. They’re the definition of diehards, for sure. And they’re going to be expecting a lot. Not just from me, but from this team. Just have to go out there and show it.”

True enough, since Jalen Brunson basically got superstar money from the Knicks, the New York faithful will demand him to play like one. Of course it might not immediately come, but the ‘Bockers are certainly hoping he'll play a critical role in their return to playoff contention.

While many Knicks supporters know that Brunson is not that transcendent talent that can carry a franchise to the title, he's at least anticipated to help catapult them to win in the playoffs–just like what he did for the Mavs this past offseason when Luka Doncic was out.

It remains to be seen if Brunson can live up to all those massive expectations, but one thing is certain: he understands the task at hand and is more than hungry to prove himself.
