After being removed from Tom Thibodeau's rotation, Kemba Walker scored 29 points in the New York Knicks' loss to the Boston Celtics.

Walker was brought back into the starting lineup after all of New York's point guards were ruled out for the game. By the third quarter, he had set a season-high in points. He scored 17 of his points in the third quarter, helping the Knicks take a lead entering the fourth quarter after being down by 15 points.

Walker didn't mince words after the game, stating bluntly that he deserves to be back in the rotation for good. He also danced around the question of if he wants to remain with the Knicks.

Thibodeau praised Walker's professionalism and performance tonight.

New York's season was going poorly even with the adjustment to bench Walker in favor of Alec Burks. The Knicks have lost eight of their last 10 games and will likely not turn their fortunes around with so many players in health and safety protocols.

Walker was thrilled to play for his hometown Knicks at the start of the season but things have gone far south since then. His response indicates that his desire to play is greater than his desire to remain in New York and on the bench. He came into tonight averaging just 11.7 points and 3.1 assists, so he has clearly lost a step. But he still would be able to contribute to several teams.

Whether Walker remains in New York is ultimately up to the front office. But the Knicks could face a tough decision if Walker continues to play strongly.
