In hopes of shoring up their forward positions, the New York Knicks signed young Croatian forward Mario Hezonja this summer. While this could be his chance to prove he belongs to the league, Hezonja says he doesn't want to be an “a-hole” as he slowly finds his way within the team.

Marc Berman of the New York Post talked to Hezonja about expectations for the Knicks and for himself:

“It’s not about me trying to show off immediately and do some crazy stuff,” Hezonja told The Post. “I’m being overly patient, trying to play for my teammates, trying to see who I fit with. It’s a new kind of team. I don’t want to be an a–hole to anybody. I’m just trying to figure out my own team. I know I can hold myself up easily. I was trying figure out the environment.”

Hezonja, the fifth overall pick of the 2015 draft, has many critics already writing him off as a bust. The Orlando Magic drafted him ahead of notable players like Devin Booker, Myles Turner, and Terry Rozier. Looked upon as a sharpshooter heading into the draft, Hezonja never eclipsed a double-digit scoring average in his first three years in the league.

But Hezonja is just 23 years old, and there's no doubt that there's still a lot of improvement possible for the 6-foot-8 forward. He had his most productive season last year, averaging 9.6 points and 3.7 rebounds while showing glimpses of his potential to be an all-around player.

With Kristaps Porzingis out as he recovers from a torn ACL, Hezonja will get a prime opportunity to succeed.
