For much of the last few seasons, the New York Knicks had become a team marred by dysfunction and disappointment on and off the court.

However, the organization experienced much upheaval both in the front office and on the roster in hopes of getting things back on the right track this upcoming campaign. According to the Associated Press, new team president Steve Mills believes that he can help bring a feeling of calmness around the franchise.

“Part of my job is to try to add some sense of calmness to what had been a little bit of a crazy environment that we’ve been going through,” Mills said. “So I think that we have a good group of people here.”

The Knicks, under Steve Mills, have made major changes to the roster that included moving All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder, which removes any possible distraction concerning his future with the team. The focus has now shifted toward building around rising star forward Kristaps Porzingis as potentially the next face of the franchise.

This, along with the dismissal of Phil Jackson, could be what is needed to get the organization back on the right track of once again becoming relevant in the Eastern Conference after missing the playoffs over the last four seasons. It has reached a point where there is nowhere to go but up for the Knicks moving forward.

With a new front office regime leading the way, New York has an opportunity to take a fresh start beginning with the 2017-18 season.
