After letting the dust settle, it becomes clear that despite losing Kristaps Porzingis, the New York Knicks have emerged as winners following Thurday's franchise-altering deal.

The team were successful in dumping the burdensome salaries of Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr., which reportedly gives them the option to sign two max players this summer. Nonetheless, team president Steve Mills remains calm and calculated amidst the storm, stating that the Knicks must remain steadfast in its plan to build the team through the draft.

“We're going to be prudent in how we use that room because we're still consistent in building this team through the draft and with young players,” Mills said, via Ian Begley of ESPN. “And when there is an opportunity, to add a free agent, that certainly is one of the tools that we have in our tool box.”

The Knicks now officially have the worst record in the league, and have recently become frontrunners to land the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. This means that the prospect of signing Zion Williamson has become even more realistic, so Mills is definitely right when he explains where they want to keep their focus on.

Then again, having the cap space to sign two max players definitely puts the Knicks in advantageous position. New York remains to possess one of the biggest markets in the league, so attracting a superstar to sign with the team should not be too big of an issue.

Regardless of the path they take within the next few months, it would be quite difficult to screw up the enviable position the Knicks have placed themselves in. Next season is definitely going to have a different tone for the Knicks faithful.
