With the Los Angeles Clippers suffering another disappointing playoff exit this past season, the basketball world is speculating whether the organization will break up its star trio of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and James Harden. George's name is now getting thrown around in the same sentences as the New York Knicks by some highly esteemed reporters.

Not only would George fit in well with New York's roster, but the team has the resources to pull off a trade, via ESPN's Brian Windhorst (14:32 mark).

“The reason that the Knicks makes sense is that the Knicks could make a deal with any team because they have some expiring contract money, plus the draft picks, and if you're the Knicks and you're thinking about how you're going to beat the Celtics you got to keep OG Anunoby and if you could acquire a player like Paul George, I'm not saying Paul George, but if you got a player like Paul George,” Windhorst said.

Pairing Anunoby and George to supplement Jalen Brunson's scoring prowess could be the perfect recipe to contend with the Boston Celtics.

“Like I’m not mentioning several guys who could be in that trade but Jalen Brunson, you know you want to start with a way to deal with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum,” Windhorst continued. “How about I offer up OG Anunoby and Paul George, that’s not bad.”

The Knicks never got a chance to see how they stacked up against the Celtics in the playoffs, as they fell to the Indiana Pacers in the second round after suffering a litany of injuries. However, the general consensus is that New York needs one more star to truly have a chance of knocking Boston off its pedestal.

Is PG-13 to the Knicks a legitimate possibility, or is the the 34-year-old destined to stay out west?

With the Sixers out on George, the runway is clear for the Knicks

With George still being an All-Star despite his advanced age, he's been linked to multiple contenders, including the Philadelphia 76ers. However, the team is no longer seriously chasing the former Pacer, via The Athletic's Shams Charania.

“The Philadelphia 76ers' interest in pursuing Paul George has significantly waned in recent days, and the franchise is expected to be aggressive elsewhere with its salary cap flexibility and draft capital leading into next week’s NBA Draft, sources tell
@TheAthletic @Stadium,” Charania tweeted.

With the Sixers out on George, New York now has less competition for his services. The Knicks have plenty of draft capital to offer the Clippers, including two 2024 first-round picks and four in 2025. Players such as Julius Randle and Miles McBride could be good trade chips as well.

Regardless, if New York assembles a trio of Brunson, George, and Anunoby, they would be a favorite to win the NBA Finals next season.
