The New York Knicks are finally taking some steps in the right direction by relieving Steve Mills from his duties as president of basketball operations on Tuesday.

Pundits believe that team owner James Dolan will try to make a big splash by luring Toronto Raptors president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri away from Canada and into The Big Apple.

While acquiring a brilliant mind and proven winner in Ujiri will certainly turn things around for the dysfunctional franchise, the Knicks could actually go an unorthodox, yet increasingly popular route.

We're talking about the possibility of giving a player agent full reigns over one of the biggest basketball markets in the world.

As far as high profile agents in today's game goes, there's probably no one more prominent than Klutch Sports group founder Rich Paul.

The 38-year-old has become one of the most recognizable non-athletes in the league today, thanks in large part to his affiliation with the NBA's biggest star LeBron James. Paul, who also resides from Cleveland, Ohio, has been a longtime compatriot of The King. He is also one of the few people in LeBron's small inner circle, alongside his childhood friends Maverick Carter and Randy Mims.

Rich Paul has since emerged out of James' shadow and has established his own name around the league. Perhaps the biggest thing he brings to the table is his connections and relationships with some of the best players in the NBA.

Apart from representing James, Paul has an impressive stable of players in Anthony Davis, Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, Ben Simmons, Draymond Green, and Jusuf Nurkić. It's safe to say that Paul will indeed have a big influence on where these athletes will play once their contracts are up.

He played a big role in the Anthony Davis trade saga last season and also had his hand on his eventual move from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Lakers this offseason to team up with LeBron.

Sure, the glaring issue would be Paul's lack of experience in running a franchise. Not to mention, trying to fix the Knicks is a whole new different animal in itself.

The gamble worked well for the Golden State Warriors, as they won three titles under Bob Myers' watchful eye. The Lakers are also currently thriving under former Kobe Bryant agent Rob Pelinka.

The Knicks will have to take a leap of faith on this one. But who knows, Paul might just be the guy to bring New York back to basketball relevance.
