Latvian sophomore, Kristaps Porzingis, had an incredible rookie season last year, stepping into basketball’s most intense spotlight and becoming a key player for the New York Knicks.

Many fans believed that the best approach for the franchise would be to rebuild the roster whilst developing Porzingis as a franchise player. The 7’3″ sensation does not necessarily agree.

“I'm young, but we don't have 10 years to win a championship. We got to win soon. So that's my mindset as well”, Porzingis told Ian Begley of ESPN.

Phil Jackson appears to be taking a ‘win now’ approach to building the Knicks’ 2016-2017 roster, recently trading for Derrick Rose and signing Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee in free agency. The new acquisitions will join Carmelo Anthony and Porzingis in the Big Apple, with the objective of competing in the NBA playoffs.

From Begley:

“I know those guys want to win right away. They've been in the league for a long time. So all I got to do is stay as mentally focused as I can to help those guys win. That's the No. 1 goal. I'm not here to have five seasons of just trying to win. I'm going to give 100 percent. If it works, it works; if it doesn't, we're going to try next year when our moment comes.”

Porzingis spoke highly of his new teammates and seems positive about working with his new head coach, Jeff Hornacek. A lot of Knicks fans share the excitement with the young star but realize that the championship window wukk not stay open for long with a roster of this age. But, perhaps they can eventually rebuild on the fly.
