Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will be part of a completely new starting backcourt for the Los Angeles Lakers this upcoming season alongside much-hyped rookie Lonzo Ball, and the former Detroit Piston is already excited about the prospect of playing with his new backcourt mate.

In an interview with Uninterrupted’s Open Run podcast with Jesse Williams and Stefan Marolachkis, Caldwell-Pope said he's looking forward to playing with Ball after he watched the rookie play during Summer League.

The new Lakers shooting guard took notice of how Ball passed the ball and saw the floor, and could also tell how much fun the team was having with all the ball movement when Lonzo was running the show. He thinks Ball is amazing and believes the Lakers can be great next year with him playing the point.

The combination of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Lonzo Ball seems like a great fit on paper. The former is perfectly comfortable playing off the ball and should be able to get some good looks thanks to the latter's passing and playmaking. Caldwell-Pope is also a terrific defender who can make up for Ball’s defensive shortcomings by taking on the opposing team’s best guards.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is only signed to a one-year deal with the Lakers after failing to land a max contract this summer. But if he can find a way to thrive alongside Lonzo Ball in the Lakers' backcourt this season, he could finally get that big payday he's looking for in 2018.
