The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, but it was a spirited effort and one of the more exciting games of the season. While there's really no place for moral victories at this point, perhaps the Lakers can use this as a springboard for a strong close to the campaign.

This was the first game for Los Angeles after this past Thursday's NBA trade deadline, and Anthony Davis admitted having that finally pass is a help for the team:

The Lakers were involved in plenty of trade rumors as they sought to improve their roster during this underwhelming season. Talen Horton-Tucker was prominently involved in rumors, and then there was plenty of speculation about Russell Westbrook given how his season has turned into a total disaster.

There were no trades, though, so Los Angeles will turn to the buyout market for help. There's some reporting out there stating Davis and LeBron James weren't aligned with Rob Pelinka on what happened at the deadline, but at least publicly, AD is ready to move forward with this group and will try to turn things around.

The Lakers dropped to 26-31 with their 117-115 loss to Golden State. Davis didn't play all that well, going for 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting against a Warriors team still playing without Draymond Green. LeBron didn't shoot well either (9-of-27), but the Lakers stars were picked up by their teammates to make it a competitive game. Unfortunately, James failed at the foul line with a chance to tie the game in the final seconds.
