The Los Angeles Lakers signed DeMarcus Cousins back in July, hoping to reunite him with former New Orleans Pelicans pal Anthony Davis in their frontcourt. However, it doesn't look like we'll ever get to see those two play together in Lakers uniforms.

Not this year, anyway.

Last month, Cousins tore his ACL during an offseason workout, all but surely ending his 2019-20 campaign before it even started.

At Lakers media day on Friday, Davis addressed the status of his old Pelicans teammate.

“I was shocked,” Davis said of learning that Cousins had torn his ACL, via ClutchPoints. “He hasn't had the opportunity to be ‘old DeMarcus' and he was excited about being healthy. He's in good spirits now.”

Davis and Cousins were teammates for a very short stretch, as the Pelicans traded for Cousins during All-Star Weekend in 2017. The following January, Cousins tore his Achilles which effectively ended his tenure in New Orleans.

Cousins proceeded to sign a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors last summer and ultimately returned in January, playing in 30 games and averaging 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals over 25.7 minutes per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor, 27.4 percent from 3-point range and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

He then suffered a quad tear during the first round of the playoffs, but he returned for the finals and ended up playing a pivotal role. Unfortunately, the Warriors proceeded to fall in six games to the Toronto Raptors.

Cousins, who spent the first six-and-a-half years of his career with the Sacramento Kings, boasts career averages of 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.
