LOS ANGELES – After the Los Angeles Lakers took care of the Detroit Pistons at the Staples Center and every player had cleared out of the Lakers' locker room, veteran center Dwight Howard spoke to the media for about 10 minutes about several different topics. Howard talked about playing on a championship-caliber team again, the similarities of his career compared to Derrick Rose, and an unexpected conversation about his snakes.

Apparently, Howard owns 25 snakes with only a few of those reptiles that he has names for. After pointing out his distaste for one of the reporters' snakeskin heels, Dwight gave some insight on his pets, including some of the names for his snakes like She-Hulk, Godzilla, Mickey, and Minnie.

Although Dwight isn't considered to be the superstar of old, the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year is having a career resurgence in his second stint with the Lakers. Howard's return to Los Angeles was highly questionable for the now-journeyman due to his history with the team and potential baggage he'd bring with him. Still, he's far exceeded expectations and has become an important role player for the Lakers in the first half of the season.

If Howard can continue playing at a high level while staying healthy and not being a distraction off the floor, the 34-year-old will be a key contributor to a team that may be headed for a long playoff and a potential NBA title. There's a long way to go, but Howard is doing everything right as he helps this franchise move closer to hanging a 17th championship banner in the rafters at the Staples Center.
