The Los Angeles Lakers have been tirelessly trying to dig themselves out of one of the darker periods that the once heralded franchise has ever encountered. While signing former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat forward LeBron James was certainly quite the start to what can only be categorized as an attempt at an immediate turnaround, things have not really gone according to plan in Los Angeles as a result of the early portion of the 2018-19 campaign.

However, having “King James” always comes with both headlines and controversy. Even in the absence of the currently injured James, it appears as though the Lakers — and specifically head coach Luke Walton — aren't out of the woods just yet.

On Tuesday, Lakers controlling owner and president Jeanie Buss provided an interesting answer when asked about Luke Walton's job security going forward.

As is becoming a tradition in Los Angeles, Jeanie Buss seemed to immediately defer to Lakers president of basketball operations “Magic” Johnson.

Overall this season, the Lakers have produced an underwhelming 25-23 record with the franchise currently sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference standings. Granted such a mark is a major improvement from a season ago when Los Angeles finished the 2017-18 regular season with a dismal 35-47 record, but an increase in wins was always expected with James on board.

Due to a lingering groin injury on James, though, the Lakers have been forced to perform without their superstar on the floor for the better part of the last few weeks. As a result, there was a ton of pressure on both the team's young core and the Walton.
