In the latest saga of Kawhi Leonard’s impending free agency, the Toronto Raptors star and reigning Finals MVP will meet with the Los Angeles Lakers, including controlling owner Jeanie Buss and recently deposed president Magic Johnson.

Johnson stepped into the Lakers' president of basketball operations role back in 2017. However, after a 2018-19 season marred with controversy and criticism, the Hall of Famer resigned from his post just right before the team's final regular season home game in April.

Leonard is expected to field pitches from prospective franchises in Los Angeles, his hometown, at the start of the open market. Kawhi will meet with the Clippers and Lakers before talking with the New York Knicks and the Toronto Raptors.

At the start of the 2018-19 campaign, Leonard was viewed as a one-year rental for the Raptors after his awkward exit from the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs traded Leonard and Danny Green to the Canadian franchise last summer in exchange for DeMar DeRozan. It wasn’t until Toronto’s deep playoff run and subsequent championship that whispers around the league grew into louder indications of Kawhi staying with the team.

For the Lakers, bringing in Magic is another strange component of their wacky offseason. Johnson left the franchise in disarray after never pulling off a trade for Anthony Davis with the New Orleans Pelicans. The then-president resigned from his position, telling reporters in L.A. he hadn’t even told Buss of his decision yet.

Nevertheless, the Purple and Gold franchise appears to be keeping Magic in their circle, and the legendary playmaker will pitch Kawhi on the history and glory that is the Los Angeles and Lakers–that is if the brooding Leonard is willing to listen.
