Now that the Los Angeles Lakers can accommodate a max-level player, they're reportedly gunning for Kyrie Irving despite all the rumors saying that the star guard will head to the Brooklyn Nets.

Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Lakers are hoping to take a chance at luring Irving.

The Lakers will be sending Moe Wagner, Isaac Bonga, and Jemerrio Jones to the Washington Wizards. On top of this, Anthony Davis has agreed to waive his $4 million trade kicker, which will give the Lakers the ability to gun for a max player worth $32 million. Kyrie Irving is in that collection of players.

After failing to make waves with the Boston Celtics, rumors quickly mushroomed regarding a James-Irving reunion. After all, the two won a title together and ousted a 73-win team. And it was evident that both of them were in desperate to win another title. A reunion would be the logical way to go about it.

However, for the past few weeks or so, rumor has it that Kyrie Irving is attracted to the Nets' roster infrastructure. To recall, the Kenny Atkinson-led squad finished sixth in the Eastern Conference. Their roster comprised of a bunch of young and scrappy players led by budding star D'Angelo Russell. From the looks of it, the Nets need just one more elite player to turn into contenders.

The Lakers' entry into the picture makes everything interesting. The mere presence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis makes a team a legitimate contender. Adding one more player like Irving could mean an NBA title.
