After another injury-riddled season that included major ailments to Anthony Davis and LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers are shaking up their training staff for the second summer in a row.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers did not renew the contract of Dr. Judy Seto, who had been the team's director of sports performance since 2019. Seto served as the Lakers' head physical therapist from 2011 to 2016 and had worked with the organization since the 1990s.

Seto developed a close bond with Kobe Bryant, who called her “indispensable” and credited Seto with extending his career, per the Times. She was not retained after the 2016 season but was brought back in 2019.

Last summer, the Lakers let go of head athletic trainer Nina Hsieh and hired Roger Sancho to replace her. In 2019, the organization promoted Hsieh after firing Marco Nuñez. Sancho will reportedly remain on board.

In 2019-20 — coming off a condensed offseason — Anthony Davis was limited to 36 games to due to a variety of lower leg injuries. His season ended due to a groin strain he suffered in the Lakers‘ first-round loss to the Phoenix Suns. LeBron James missed 20 games with a fluky ankle sprain.

This past season, the Lakers dealt with extended injuries up and down the roster, including a bone bruise to Kendrick Nunn's left knee that mysteriously kept him out for the entire season. Once again, Davis (40 games) and LeBron (56 games) dealt with various health issues, some fluky and some a cause of wear-and-tear.

Davis noticeably bulked up his upper body in the summer of 2021, but his agility and explosiveness seemed diminished and his jump shot was clearly affected.

It's the first notable decision in what should be a second consecutive summer full of them in Los Angeles.
