The iconic 2002 St. Vincent-St. Mary high school jersey of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is now up for auction, per Goldin Auctions.

LeBron wore the jersey during a photoshoot with Sports Illustrated on February 3, 2002. The cover, which called James “The Chosen One”, went on to become one of the most legendary magazine covers in all of sports.

The cover essentially put James on the world basketball map. Back then, he was considered the best high school player in the country. Some say that he's even the most-hyped prospect in all of sports.

Before James, televising high school games was unheard of. Yet due to his sheer talent and basketball prowess, major TV networks saw the importance and profitability of televising his games. Seemingly overnight, James was tagged as the next big thing, heir to the throne of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Now, fast forward to 2019, one can say that James lived to the hype. After 17 years in the NBA, he's still at the top of his game and remains in the running for another title with the Lakers.

Once James hangs up his jersey and sneakers for good, everyone will look back at that legendary magazine cover, the jersey he wore, and what it means not just to James' legacy but also to his everlasting impact on the game.
