Former NBA sharpshooter and current internet troll Nick Young took to his Twitter account after the Lakers loss to the Pelicans on Tuesday night to emphasize the importance of their superstar, LeBron James.

Young, who donned the Laker uniform from 2013 to 2017, made clear his pick for MVP. James’ impact on LA’s performance this season has been huge, as he had to shoulder a greater load than normal due to his co-star Anthony Davis’ injury.

Davis sustained the injury against the Nuggets on February 14th, and has not returned to the hardwood since. During the stretch following the Denver game, James has kept the Lakers afloat, managing an 8-5 record.

Things went from bad to worse for the Lakeshow in the second quarter of their matchup against the Atlanta Hawks last saturday. James suffered an ankle injury that ultimately forced him off the court, where he has not returned.

LeBron James’ stats were unmistakably elite, with averages of 25.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.9 assists before his injury, leading the Lakers to a 28-16 record and the 4th seed in the West. His impressive numbers have been the catalyst for the Lakers this season, leaving the team without an identity in his absence. LA has dropped both games after the King’s injury, worrying fans and players alike. Kyle Kuzma is among those unsure of the Lakers' next steps.

In the meantime, the Lakers will try to keep their heads above water in an ultra-competitive Western Conference. Doing so without both of their top guys will be difficult, and the team will be eager to do all they can to protect their current home court advantage in the playoffs.
