REPORT: LeBron James, Lakers waiving fan-favorite point guard

Lakers, LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers are making one more roster cut ahead of Tuesday’s season tipoff. While this development is not completely shocking, it is still somewhat of a deflating development considering how this particular youngster has emerged as a bit of a fan-favorite among Lakers supporters.

According to Jovan Buva of The Athletic, the Lakers have decided to part ways with 22-year-old point guard Mac McClung.

Following a three-year college career with Georgetown and Texas Tech, McClung went undrafted during the 2021 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-2 point guard signed with the Lakers for the Summer League, where he was able to turn some heads with his rather impressive play. Some fans even went as far as comparing McClung to former Lakers cult icon Alex Caruso.

Unfortunately for Mac McClung, he has not done enough to earn a roster spot for the 2021-22 season alongside LeBron James and Co. The good news for the former Hoyas standout is that he will be joining LA’s G League affiliate. This means that he will still be connected with the organization and that a call-up to the NBA remains to be a possibility at some point in the season.

McClung took the floor for the Lakers in Tuesday’s preseason loss against the Warriors. He logged just two minutes of action, though, and was unable to record any stats.
