LeBron James made history on Friday while leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 129-114 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

The King has passed Michael Jordan for fourth on the all-time field goals made list. LeBron entered the game needing only 10 made shots to surpass His Airness for the record, and he did so early in the game as the Lakers built a huge lead against the Mavs.

For a man like James who has been chasing Michael Jordan's shadow his entire career, this achievement puts him closer to the stratosphere that he has long hoped to achieve.

The play he pulled off to get past MJ was a classic LeBron move: it started from a spin move around the free-throw line that ended in a difficult moving layup with two Mavs defenders trying to stop him from scoring.

The fact that LeBron finally has this achievement under his belt is a testament to how incredible of a scorer he is. Moreover, for him to still perform at such a high level at the age of 35 is one that will continue to confuse analysts and fans.

Last November 2019, Lakers legend Magic Johnson came out to declare that LeBron James will likely become the greatest player to ever play the game — better than Michael Jordan.

Per Business Insider's Meredith Cash:

“For him to really catch Michael, it's that next two or three championships,” Johnson said. “If he could get a couple more championships, then he'll be probably the greatest that's ever played.”

LeBron is having an incredible 17th season in the league, averaging 25.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists every game. For what it's worth, he also passed MJ for fourth on the all-time scoring list last season in a game against the Denver Nuggets.
