Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is changing numbers. The King donned the number 23 in his time with the Purple and Gold and now plans on making the switch back to No. 6. However, it turns out that James had been planning this all along, according to Darren Rovell of The Action Network.

“Sources told The Action Network that James informed the NBA last season of his intent to change, which got him out of being on the hook for anything still at retail.”

Under the NBA's new rule, a player will be responsible for all of the leftover inventory of the old jersey number in an effort to protect the retailer. However, James filed for the switch early enough to avoid paying millions of dollars to cover the cost of the No. 23 jerseys that were leftover.

James sported the No. 6 jersey with the Miami Heat and switched back to No. 23 when he went back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron also plans on wearing the No. 6 jersey for the new Space Jam film, and many have speculated that the switch can also be due to his determination to bring home another championship.

Nonetheless, James knew what he was doing, and the NBA and Adam Silver have lost a nice chunk of change with LeBron's brilliant planning and his articulated move to swap jersey numbers.

Don't worry, Anthony Davis will still wear the same No. 3 jersey.
