Los Angeles Lakers center Andre Drummond has no idea where his “Big Penguin” nickname came from.

Yet the nickname seems to have enough renown that LeBron James asked Drummond about it after the two-time All-Star signed with the Lakers.

Apparently, Drummond has an affinity for penguins. He said as much following Tuesday night's win over the Charlotte Hornets.

A Twitter user suggested the nickname stems from videos on Drummond's old Vine account, with one such video showing Drummond in a penguin costume.

That would be both a humorous and strange origin for the nickname if it is indeed true. LeBron certainly seems a bit perplexed by the moniker.

The Lakers could probably care less what Drummond's nickname is so long as he can help the team win.

The two-time All-Star and four-time rebounding champion signed with the Lakers after being bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Drummond suffered a toe injury in his very first appearance with the team, missing each of the next three games. He has produced mixed results since then.

Drummond had consecutive double-doubles in his return from the toe issue, including a 20-point, 11-rebound showing in a win over the Brooklyn Nets on April 10.

But the 27-year-old has had a rough go of things in the past couple of outings. Drummond attempted just three shots and committed four turnovers in a loss to the New York Knicks on Monday, then shot just 2-for-7 from the field on Tuesday.

The Lakers cannot afford to have Drummond waddle about, so to speak, on the offensive end of the floor. He needs to give them frontcourt scoring as they continue to trudge on without James and Anthony Davis.
