Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James sent his well-wishes to DMX, whose legal name is Earl Simmons, after the rapper fell into a vegetative state following a drug overdose.

James called DMX one of his favorite artists, past or present, while also wishing him a speedy recovery.

Simmons' former manager, Nakia Walker, said he was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack at his home in White Plains, New York on Friday.

Simmons' old lawyer, Murray Richman, lauded his former client's personality and said he dealt with a lot of struggles internally:

“He is truly an amazing person,” Richman said, via Jesus Jimenez of the New York Times. “He walked into a room, he lit up the room. He couldn’t help making you feel good in his presence.

“He expressed the pain and suffering in a very unique way,” Richman said. “He truly is reflective of a whole segment of our society whose pain and suffering go unrecorded.”

The chart-topping rapper of “Party Up” and “X Gon' Give It to Ya” fame became the first musician whose first four albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

DMX has a long history of drug issues, which he previously said began when he smoked a blunt laced with cocaine at just 14 years old. He had multiple arrests stemming from drug use and possession but thought to have gotten clean in 2011.

However, DMX was forced to cancel shows in California in 2017 as a result of checking into a rehab facility. He also checked himself back into rehab in 2019.

James and numerous others in the sports and entertainment industry have issued statements of support for the popular artist.
