The race for the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference is getting really tight at the moment, with no less than six teams all vying for their chance to make a run in this season's playoffs. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers — who themselves are sitting comfortably at the top spot out West — has shared his thoughts on the race and their potential first-round opponents once the postseason begins.

According to LeBron, the fact that there are so many moving parts that will determine the final outcome makes him not bother thinking about the eighth seed at the moment.

“I’m not paying attention to what’s going on with the eighth seed right now, there’s too much that can happen,” said LeBron, via Joe Vardon of The Athletic. “And then there’s play-in games to decide that, so it’s too far away right now.”

That makes a lot of sense. James does not want to waste his time with going through the exercise of trying to predict who the Lakers will potentially face off against in the first round of the playoffs since nothing is certain at this point. Most teams have played just one out of the eight seeding games, and so much will still happen between now and when the regular season ends.

As for the Lakers, they missed their chance to secure the first seed on Saturday with a loss against the Toronto Raptors. Nonetheless, they still hold a five-and-a-half-game advantage over the second-placed Los Angeles Clippers, so as it appears, it is only a matter of time before the Lakers make it official.
