It was reported earlier this week that the Los Angeles Lakers want to visit the White House to celebrate their 2020 NBA championship now that Donald Trump is out and Joe Biden is in.

Lakers star LeBron James was asked Thursday about the possibility of visiting the White House. James isn't sure about it because of all the COVID-19 rules, but he loves the idea.

Via Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll:

“I don’t think we’ve had any conversations with our team. I have no idea with all the COVID rules and restrictions and everything that’s going on with the league, I’m not even sure if we’re allowed to. It’d be great, but I have no idea what we can even do right now besides hotel, arena and home. So I have no idea.”

The Lakers star showed optimistic realism in his reply. It's only natural for King James to be excited, albeit cautiously, for a White House visit. He openly endorsed Joe Biden in his presidential bid after years of squabbles with Trump.

With the ongoing pandemic, such a visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will likely have to wait a bit longer. The NBA is doing its best to institute strict policies to keep the coronavirus at bay during this 2020-21 season, but there have already been a number of postponements due to positive tests and contract tracing protocols. Biden's White House is also implementing stricter policies in an attempt to fight the pandemic.

Another issue is the Lakers currently don't have a date with the Washington Wizards in the nation's capital on their schedule. That could come in the second half of the season, but there's a lot still up in the air with the scheduling as the NBA tries to figure out what to do with all these postponed games. The Wizards themselves haven't played in almost two weeks.

So, while LeBron and the Lakers would love a White House visit, it likely won't happen anytime soon.
