When it comes to basketball greatness, newly signed Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is definitely on another level. A 14-time All-Star, 14-time All-NBA team member, a four-time MVP, three-time Finals MVP, and three-time NBA champion, his talent and basketball wisdom throughout his seasons in the league made him the legend that he is today.

Despite his legend, it is not spotless. Being human, James has had failures and mistakes in his career, and given the chance to offer advice to his younger self you’d expect something zen-like as a response.

In an interview, James talked about not wanting to give his younger self any advice.

“The reason I don’t want advice is because every experience is a teacher. Every experience that you have is the best teacher in life. You can read books. You can have great parents. You can have great mentors. In order for you to be able to tackle something, you have to go through things. All the experiences that I’ve had along with the way since I became known at 15 and all the way to my age now, there’s been bumps bruises. It’s been good, it’s been bad.”

Without a doubt, LeBron James is a self-made man. Those experiences that he has had from his childhood, getting to the NBA — from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat, back to Cleveland, and now Los Angeles — have brought a roller coaster of ups and downs for him, but it has made him the great player and man that he is today.
