The Los Angeles Lakers will waive rookie Aric Holman in order to make room for newly-signed Dwight Howard on their training camp roster, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The Lakers signed Holman to an Exhibit 10 contract in hopes of making him a stretch four for the team. However, he was unimpressive during Summer League, shooting only 27 percent from behind the arc. He wasn't expected to make the team's opening night roster anyway, so the move makes sense.

Of course, waiving Holman does not guarantee Howard's future with the Lakers. If he underperforms during training camp, LA can just waive him without spending anything, thanks to the non-guaranteed deal he signed. Howard's contract with the Purple and Gold has zero salary protection, making him a low-risk, high-reward signing.

However, if Howard is able to prove that he is indeed an asset to the team, the Lakers will most likely keep him and probabl increase his role.

The Lakers have championship aspirations in the upcoming season, so they are being extra careful with the moves they are making. Of course, they have high hopes that Howard will make a significant impact to help them become an even more formidable team.
