The Los Angeles Lakers have the only ties with the controversial Ball family among all NBA teams. Lonzo Ball plays for them and they are also the team that his family has been supporting for years, being from Chino Hills.
After news broke out about LiAngelo Ball’s arrest in China, it was understandable for the Lakers to have a degree of concern as the incident could affect Lonzo’s mindset if this became a distraction to him. It’s a good thing Luke Walton’s father, Bill, is with the UCLA Bruins in China, and he could provide updates about the situation.
However, according to the Lakers’ head coach, he has not spoken to his father yet, and that the only text message he received from him so far is that they are enjoying themselves at Disneyland.
Bill Walton is with the UCLA basketball team in China, but Luke Walton said he has not spoken to his dad regarding the unfolding Ball situation. "I got a text message of him at Disneyland," Luke said, "singing and dancing around. But that was about it."

After being identified as the suspects in a shoplifting case, LiAngelo Ball, along with two of his teammates, were detained for hours without contact with any team officials, before they were released. The Bruins are currently in China to play a preseason game against Georgia Tech.
LaVar Ball, the patriarch of the family, has downplayed the hysteria surrounding the case. He realizes that it's an ‘ufortunate' situation that his son faced, but remains confident that this will get resolved.
