The Los Angeles Lakers have revamped their roster this year with a superstar and veteran talent added around their promising young players. Head coach Luke Walton has the challenge of trying to get a lot the pieces together before the 2018-19 NBA season gets underway and figuring out how to keep up the pace from last season which was among the best in the league.

Despite the arrival of LeBron James, who may not be used to this style of play, Walton intends to continue with the system he's installed with the pace being an emphasis as he said on Monday during Media Day.

“We're going to play fast,” Walton said about the team's pace. “Whether it is the same speed, fast or slower, we'll get to know our team as training camp goes, but we're going to play fast.

“We have a very deep team. We have a lot of guys that can push the ball. We want to attack. We think a big strength of ours will be our depth and the amount of guys we can throw at you. When you have that type of team, it's a big advantage to push it down and make other teams play more possessions and play at a faster pace.”

Although Walton has a tough task on his hands with veterans mixing with young players, the Lakers have the potential to put something special together with LeBron leading the way in Los Angeles. It will take some molding and certain players having to accept different roles, but this squad could make some noise in the Western Conference if it all comes together this year.

Following Media Day, Walton and company will get to work on Tuesday during the first day of training camp leading up to the preseason opener on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
