Magic Johnson shocked the basketball world at the end of the regular season by stepping down as president of the Los Angeles Lakers, but he still has some advice for the franchise he knows and loves, and that advice is for Kobe Bryant to be a bigger part of things going forward:

“I don't know how much he's involved, but he needs to be more involved, because he's an intelligent man in terms of basketball,” Johnson said on ESPN First Take on Monday, per Harrison Feigen of SB Nation.

Johnson is not the first person to say this, and he almost certainly won't be the last.

Bryant spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, retiring after the 2015-16 campaign. During that time, he racked up five NBA championships and made it to seven NBA Finals overall while also making a ridiculous 18 All-Star teams. In addition, he won the MVP award during the 2007-08 season.

He may very well be the most popular Laker in history, and that is saying a mouthful considering Johnson himself had a storied career for the franchise and because the Lakers simply had a ton of great players don the purple and gold in general.

So, obviously, the fans would love it, but in what way should Bryant get involved?

It seems hard to imagine Bryant taking on any kind of executive role in the front office, because he could potentially damage his standing with Laker Nation if he doesn't do a great job. But, perhaps Bryant can serve as sort of an ambassador for the franchise and help young players?

Regardless, Johnson does have a point in saying that Bryant may need to get more involved.
