The Los Angeles Lakers have just suffered a major blow right at the start of NBA free agency. Despite previous indications of his desire to stay in LA, it is now being reported that Malik Monk has decided to snub the Lakers in favor of the Sacramento Kings.

This report comes from Shams Charania of The Athletic:

Monk was one of the few bright spots in a truly forgettable season for the Lakers last term. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, while also connecting on 2.3 triples per game on a 39.1-percent clip.

The 24-year-old previously stated his interest to run it back with LeBron James and Co. for another year. In fact, he even hinted at the possibility of taking less money just to be able to remain in LA. As it turns out, however, Monk had other plans.

For what it's worth, the Lakers made one major signing right at the start of free agency as well. They have reportedly brought in 6-foot-11 center Damian Jones on a two-year deal:

This isn't exactly the type of splash Lakers fans were expecting, but Jones could actually add some much-needed depth to LA's frontcourt. It's also still early in free agency, so who knows, perhaps the Lakers have more moves in store.
