In 2018, NBA fans in several U.S. cites saw billboards go up in an attempt to lure LeBron James to their respective teams. In the end, though, the three-time champion decided to take his talents to Hollywood and join the Los Angeles Lakers. And though the recruiting billboards have been taken down, other variants are still being posted, including one that was recently set up right around the corner from The Staples Center.

The Nike billboard, which features James looking over his left shoulder in a black and white image, features an inspiring message.

“Basketball players don't change the world, until they do.”

With respect to Michael Jordan, who brought global attention to the game of basketball with “The Dream Team” in the 90's, James is one of the most influential players the NBA has ever known. His reach is vast, and his fans are many.

James, now 33 years of age, is widely-viewed as the greatest player in today's game. In fact, Sports Illustrated said as much in their recent top-100 list. However, the King, who recently opened a public school in his hometown of Akron for 240 underprivileged third and fourth graders, is much more than just a basketball player. To many around the globe, he's an inspiration.

Though most fans in Los Angeles have welcomed James with open arms, there is a small percentage of the team's supporters who seem to be disgruntled with his arrival. In fact, a mural of James was defaced by a group of impassioned fans earlier this summer. Perhaps they'll change their tune if the Lakers make a statement in the coming season.
