Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young took to Twitter on Sunday to state his reason why LeBron James should win the Most Valuable Player award.

Young said the claim rests mostly on his belief that the Lakers would not make the playoffs without James on the roster.

Not only have the Lakers thrived this year, but they also captured the top seed in the Western Conference. Young was quick to suggest this adds to James' case.

Of course, LeBron James was also on the Lakers last season. That team finished with just 37 wins on the year, though LBJ missed 27 games due to injury.

It should also be stated that LeBron has been galvanized by the addition of Anthony Davis.

James lobbied hard for the Lakers to acquire Davis as far back as last year, and AD has allowed James to pick and choose his spots on offense. LeBron has also been far more engaged on the defensive end of the floor.

Perhaps James would have had a better shot at winning the award if COVID-19 had not interfered. LeBron was in the midst of a tremendous run after the All-Star break, one in which he dominated during wins over the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Unfortunately, voters were instructed to make their selections based on all the regular season games prior to the resumption of play in Orlando. This would figure to make it hard for James to win the award, given Bucks star and reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was still largely seen as the favorite.

Still, Nick Young thinks LeBron has had a palpable impact on this Laker team and should be rewarded with his fifth MVP trophy.
