The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Anthony Davis in a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans that will be talked about for a long time. However, not everything is settled: Anthony Davis will need a new number.

Davis had, of course, number 23 with the Pelicans. That happens to be the number LeBron James has with the Lakers. This means Davis will need to have a new number this season. Whatever could it be?

Reddit user “assistanmanager” has come up with the perfect number — and a pretty hilarious reason why.

80 is admittedly a very strange number. However, it does sound like “AD.” It's so obvious I'm amazed I've never thought of it before, let alone that it hasn't already been a joke in the past.

That being said, it's also a “fun” number. Not enough players, let alone stars, have unusual numbers. It makes sense, though: Usually a player picks a number he had a connection to. That usually means a number he had growing up; most kids were low numbers.

I would like to point out that I was number 61 after my friend picked my number for me (thanks Kevin). So if I was ever in the NBA, that would be the jersey number for me.

It's extremely unlikely Davis will go with the suggestion. He'll likely pick a lower number, although the Lakers have a good amount of retired jerseys, so it's not as though everything is available.

Los Angeles has 11 retired numbers by 10 players (Kobe Bryant has numbers 8 and 24). James already has 23. That means 12 numbers are absolutely off the table. Maybe he does go with 80. Maybe he goes with 0. The suspense is killing me.
