Over the weekend, the Houston area was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, which has now displaced thousands from their homes and properties being nearly completely damaged or destroyed.

This has created a huge push for any who can to put forth concerted financial efforts to help out the rebuilding process for those impacted by the natural disaster, and many professional sports organizations have stepped up to do so. The Los Angeles Lakers have joined the cause as the team announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have donated $100,000 to help the relief funds.

The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that they will make a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist in the relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The Lakers are the latest to lend a helping hand to the situation with many within the NBA to donate. The Washington Wizards led by John Wall and Bradley Beal have put together a fundraiser. Meanwhile, Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has given $10 million, and the NBA and NBPA have given jointly $1 million to the relief effort.

Houston Texans star defensive end JJ Watt has already helped raise $6 million to help out with the goal to hit $10 million. Texans owner Robert McNair is giving $1 million, and Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is pledging to donate $4 million.

It has been a huge effort from the professional sports industry to help the rebuilding process for the city of Houston and the nearby areas affected by Hurricane Harvey. What is more encouraging about this is that there is likely much more to come in helping those get back on their feet from this disastrous situation.
