The Los Angeles Lakers are still finalizing a compelling offer for soon-to-be head coach Tyronn Lue. However, according to reports, neither LeBron James nor his agent/business partner Rich Paul were part of the decision. This despite having had recent conversations over the course of the last few weeks, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

Lue was reportedly the primary choice of the franchise, even if the front office chose to interview Philadelphia 76ers assistant and soon-to-be Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams first.

The combination of his underrated use of Xs and Os, as well as his complete rapport with James, made him the default choice for the job, despite others like Jason Kidd and Juwan Howard interviewing for the position as well.

The Lakers had been hesitant of building another Cleveland Cavaliers in La La Land, something that showed from as soon as James signed with the franchise last season, considering Magic Johnson's desire to avoid a proven ecosystem around James.

Others, like owner Jeanie Buss, reportedly despises the idea that James runs the franchise and quickly ensured to give her front office the power necessary to make that known.

Lue is the right hire to make at this point, but the fan base will likely question what hand James had in his hiring process.
