The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to go after New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis once again despite the team's failed negotiations back in February. They are still expected to offer most of their young core plus the fourth overall pick which they have won in last week's draft lottery.

While there are speculations that Pelicans owner Gayle Benson won't trade Davis to the Lakers no matter what happens, NBA insider Chris Broussard believes that coach Alvin Gentry is on board with the idea of building a young group around projected first overall pick Zon Williamson.

“Alvin Gentry likes the Lakers players. He loves the idea of Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, Zion Williamson, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram offensively and defensively,” Broussard said.

The Lakers young core of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma have shown flashes of potential. They were able to thrive even when LeBron James joined the team last summer. However, the biggest concern about the trio is their health.

Ingram has been shut down in the final few games of the regular season because of blood clots found in his right arm. Ball hasn't played since January after suffering a Grade 3 sprained ankle. Kuzma, meanwhile, has dealt with back spasms midway through the season.

It will be hard for the Lakers to acquire AD if they will not be able to convince the Pelicans that their young core is worth trading for. However, the prospect of growing a young group together could be intriguing for New Orleans.

Aside from Jrue Holiday, none of the players mentioned by Broussard are above 25 years old. If all of them will be able to reach their full potential, New Orleans might be able to build a team that will be a contender for several years.
