One of the biggest names that have emerged in the race for the Los Angeles Lakers' next head coach is Nick Nurse. The Toronto Raptors coach is currently being linked as the successor to Frank Vogel after the Lakers fired him on Monday.

As it turns out, however, Nurse taking over the helm in Hollywood appears to be unlikely. According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, this prospect is not looking very good for the Lakers right now:

Nurse, who led the Raptors to the NBA championship in 2019, also has a few years left on his deal and no one from around the league thinks Toronto will let him leave. Nurse signed a multiyear contract extension in 2020 with two years still remaining on his current deal.

Nurse was integral to Toronto's title run in 2019 and he has since been the glue that has been holding this team together in their post-Kawhi Leonard era. They may no longer be that same team that went on a Cinderella-like journey to the championship, but the Raptors are still a legitimate threat in the East.

It is worth noting, though that Nurse is currently represented by Klutch Sports — the same firm that also represents LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, Turner also reports that per his source, “there hasn’t been anything substantiated by way of any discussion from any parties.”

It sounds to me like the Lakers will need to look elsewhere in their search for their next head coach.
