The estranged wife of New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony, LaLa Anthony, said there was a “real possibility” of her husband leaving the Big Apple this offseason during an interview in Bravo TV.

“We'll see what happens,” La La Anthony said in an interview, which aired Sunday night according to ESPN's Ian Begley. “….My hope is that he ends up somewhere where he's happy and he can win because he's such an incredible player and he deserves to win.”

Melo had been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers and, most recently, the Houston Rockets, two teams for which he'd be willing to drop his no-trade clause for.

His top preference has been known to be playing alongside 2003 NBA Draft classmate LeBron James, though the Cavaliers' tight and dire cap space situation doesn't help matters, even more so when the team agreed sharpshooter Kyle Korver to a three-year, $22 million deal on Sunday.

The Rockets present an opportunity for him to play alongside longtime friend and Jordan Brand colleague Chris Paul, but the Knicks have been reluctant on taking Ryan Anderson‘s $60.3 million contract over the next three seasons, making it a stalemate of sorts for the time being.

Financially, Houston is the more viable option, but any trade will ultimately have to go through the 33-year-old star, giving him the ultimate power scepter in this trading venture.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been the more aggressive executive in getting Anthony out of New York, while the Cavs still look for Chauncey Billups‘ replacement as candidate to their front office post.
